Battery Fuel Gauge IC Protection

Battery Fuel Gauge ICs are critical components to the battery management system within battery-operated electronics, including drones, medical equipment, small appliances, and mobile and wearable devices. Fuel gauge ICs monitor the battery state of charge, sending the data to power management ICs to provide optimal battery life, longevity, and overall system performance. Protecting the fuel gauge ICs is important due to the increased voltage in batteries up to 20V for USB-C. Sustained overvoltage, ESD, overcurrent faults, and overheating are all hazards that could damage the battery management system if proper protection is not used.
