
Diodes Incorporated BCR420UFD & BCR421UFD Linear LED Regulators
Diodes Incorporated BCR420UFD and BCR421UFD Linear LED Constant Current Regulators (CCR) offer a simple method of driving low-current LED strips and panels in commercial and industrial lighting. Designed as a monolithic solution, the BCR420UFD and BCR421UFD integrate transistors, diodes, and resistors in a single, low-profile DFN2020 package measuring just 0.6mm high. The highly integrated design supports the development of LED devices with a thinner overall profile, increased light output efficiency, ultra-low EMI, and longer operating lifetimes. With their low 0.6mm height and compact DFN2020 package, the BCR420UFD and BCR421UFD regulators are ideally suited for 12V and 24V LED edge lighting strips in a wide range of applications.Offering a wide 1.4V to 40V operating voltage range and total power dissipation of up to 1.7W, the BCR420UFD and BCR421UFD can drive large strings of LEDs while providing sufficient protection from transients in a 24V system. The BCR420UFD and BCR421UFD regulators deliver high light-output efficiency as they only require a 1.4V supply and allow more LEDs in the string.
The BCR420UFD and BCR421UFD support adjustable currents from 10mA to 350mA with a ±10% tolerance. These devices' negative temperature coefficient lowers the LED driver current as the internal temperature rises, thereby protecting and extending the lifetime of the LEDs. In addition, the linear topology is based on an NPN emitter-follower with an emitter resistor. As a result, the BCR420UFD and BCR421UFD exhibit virtually no EMI, making it well-suited for sensitive applications such as medical lighting.
With the low-side control, the BCR421UFD has an Enable (EN) pin, which can be pulse-width modulated (PWM) up to 25kHz by a microcontroller for LED dimming.
